this may be a retarded question but...
here goes...

yea you know in your tool/task bar at the bottom of
your desktop?.... you have those lil short cut icons
on the left side?.....yea my show desk top short cut
icon is just gone.... how do i get it back down there????

Right click on your taskbar and make sure this is checked (Quick Launch) .. If it is let me know and we can go from there sunni hunni lol




Are they all gone or just the "Show Desktop" icon?

Plus from there you can add new ones (New Toolbar option) and you will see how to re ad the desktop if thats the only one missin ... Poke around wiff that and see what happens ..

umm thx it was checked......(quick launch)
and i poked around with it but im still not getting the
one back there that was there?. i dont even know how
it got all dorked up!!!

ok it tried to put all the icons on my desktop in the tool bar....lol
what im talking about there WAS an icon there that i could click and it would minimize everything and show my desktop. you know what i'm saying??

OK heres the technical way to do it .. If you cant do it this way I will show you the easy fix.

To re-create the Show Desktop icon on the Quick Launch toolbar, follow these steps:
Use any text editor (such as Notepad) to create a file with the following lines:

[Shell]
Command=2
IconFile=explorer.exe,3
[Taskbar]
Command=ToggleDesktop

Save the new file as a file named Show Desktop.scf in the Windows\System or Winnt\System32 folder. Note that Notepad may automatically append a .txt extension to the file name. Remove this extension if Notepad adds it. These steps do not work if the file is named Show Desktop.scf.txt.

Quit Notepad.

Using Windows Explorer or My Computer, right-click the Show Desktop .scf file, and then click Create Shortcut.

Copy the new shortcut to the appropriate folder. In Microsoft Windows 95 or Windows 98, copy the shortcut to this folder:
Windows\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch

In Microsoft Windows NT, Windows 2000 or XP copy the shortcut to this folder:
Winnt\System32 ---> XP - Windows\System32)

Rename the shortcut to Desktop.

The Show Desktop icon automatically appears on the Quick Launch toolbar.

The above method would be a last resort if you have deleted the desktop.scf file from your system. But I doubt you did?

Soooo instead of making you go through all of that bs just go to this path:

C:\Documents and Settings\your profile name\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\

You will see in there the Show Desktop icon. Drag & drop that sucker down to the taskbar and let it go where ya want it .. Easy enuff?

uh btw.... i just noticed that when i was messing
with it the first time ''poking''
as you said. uh my document folder that was actually
on my desktop is now gone..... yup yup....
and when i go to it manually i cant click add short-cut bcuz its not highlighted grrr
see what happens when i mess with this stuff

ok ppl just for the record i will tell you how its done in less that two posts^^ like someone did up there see which you think is easier.......


go to my computer then docs settings...paste this in the path at top
C:\Documents and Settings\your profile name\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\ . tada!! if the icons not there have someone send it and move it there tada!!
